Baseball sweeps USCAA's Christendom College

Front Royal, VA - The Penn State Fayette baseball team picked up its first wins of the young season on Saturday, March 16 as it swept Christendom.

In the opener, Fayette scored twice in the first and three times in the seventh to win, 5-1.

Noah Hanson (New Kensington, PA/Kiski HS) doubled in TJ Lux (West Newton, PA/Yough HS), who had singled to lead off the game, and then Hanson stole home.

Up 2-1 going into the seventh, Fayette scored three insurance runs.

Austin Clark (Rices Landing, PA/Jefferson Morgan) doubled in Garrett Stevenson (Hempfield, PA/Hempfield HS) and Hanson.

Three batters later, Trevor Stewart (Grindstone, PA/Brownsville HS) singled in Clark.

Matt Morgan (Eighty-Four, PA/Ringgold HS) let the nine-hit attack for Fayette with a pair of singles.

Alan Vansickle (Farmington, PA/Uniontown HS) went the distance and scattered seven hits and one run over seven innings to earn the win.

In the finale, it took 10 innings, but Fayette was able to pull out a 5-4 win.

Trailing 4-3 after two, Fayette tied the game in the third and neither team scored until Fayette scored the winning run in the 10th.

Ross Mazer (Frostburg, MD/Salisbury-Elk Lick HS) brought in Fayette's first run with an RBI double to score Jaryn Addis (Grindstone, PA/Brownsville HS) and Mazer scored on an error.

Lux singled in Jordan Decker (New Castle, PA/New Castle HS) to close the scoring in the second and give Fayette a brief 3-2 lead.

After the hosts took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the second, Fayette tied the game when  Clark scored on a ground out.

The score remained 4-4 until the 10th.

With one out, Stewart walked and then stole second.

Morgan grounded the ball to short, but the ball was misplayed and Stewart scored the winning run.

Clark went all 10 innings to notch the win.
