Smiley Homer Highlights Fayette Effort Against Greater Allegheny
Penn State Fayette fell 13-4 to Penn State Greater Allegheny on April 3, but showed flashes offensively in the home matchup.
Greater Allegheny jumped out early, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding four more in the second to take control of the game. The visitors continued to build their lead with runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings.
Fayette responded in the third inning, taking advantage of an error to plate two runs and cut into the deficit. Later in the sixth, Hunter Smiley provided the offensive highlight of the day with a two-run home run to left field, bringing home Remington Lessman and making it a 12-4 game at the time.
At the plate, Fayette was limited to four hits, with Smiley's home run accounting for the only RBIs. Lessman, Manny Stitch, and James Knapton each added a hit in the effort.
On the mound, Brogan Meighen took the loss, working 5.1 innings against a strong Greater Allegheny lineup. Todd Kowalcyk provided relief, allowing just one run over the final 1.2 innings.
Despite the result, Fayette showed resilience and will look to build on the positives as they continue their schedule.
