Early Surge by Dubois Too Much for Penn State Fayette
Du Bois Pulls Away Early to Defeat Penn State Fayette
Penn State Fayette fell on the road Sunday afternoon, dropping a 15-0 decision to Penn State Du Bois in a five-inning contest.
Du Bois set the tone early with a nine-run first inning, capitalizing on a combination of timely hitting and control issues on the mound. The home side collected six hits and drew multiple walks in the opening frame to build a commanding lead that Fayette was unable to recover from.
On the mound, Tyler Marra took the loss after allowing nine runs in the first inning. Josh Hammer provided some stability in relief, working 2.1 innings and allowing just one run, while Todd Kowalcyk closed out the game, surrendering five runs—three of which were unearned.
Offensively, Fayette was limited to just one hit on the day, which came off the bat of Ashton Ray in the third inning. The lineup battled to get runners on base, drawing three walks, but could not find a breakthrough against the Du Bois pitching staff.
Defensively, Fayette committed one error, which contributed to a four-run fourth inning for Du Bois, with several of those runs going down as unearned.
Du Bois finished with 14 hits on the afternoon, led by multiple RBI performances from Josh Stout and Alex Gavlock, helping to extend their lead throughout the game.
