Coach Joe Carei is in his third year at helm of the cross country team. He is the 2x PSUAC Coach of the Year and the 2017 USCAA National Coach of the year. His team has won the last two PSUAC titles. In 2017, he had coached 4 PSUAC runners of the week and Aaron Mylan was named USCAA National Runner of the week. The 2017 men’s team included a PSUAC record 8 all-conference runners and the women’s team had three. He also had three Academic All-Americans. His team finished 8th place in the National USCAA Championships.
Previous to Penn State, Coach had been coaching high school cross country for 22 seasons, at both the Brownsville and Uniontown School Districts. During his tenure, the teams have won 10 conference titles and had 2 WPIAL runner-up finishes. Individually, he has coached 12 all-state athletes, 18 WPIAL medalists and 6 WPIAL champions. He is a USA T&F Level 1 and 2 certified coach.
Coach Carei ran for Susquehanna University, of the former MAC conference, where he was named Runner of the Year in 1991. He continues to run, and occasionally win, local road races. He also helps many local runners with their racing plans and is co-founder of the Fayette Enclave, a competitive running group.
He is also a diving and pole vault coach at Uniontown High School.
Coach Carei resides in Uniontown with his wife Stacy and 5 Children. He is an Award Winning Chef and caterer.
