UNIONTOWN, Pa. - In only the second collegiate race to be held on the Penn State Fayette campus, the Roaring Lions will host the 2011 Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 22. The women's race will kick off at 1:00 p.m., with the men's race to follow at approximately 1:45 p.m.
Fayette will welcome eight other PSUAC schools, including Penn State Brandywine, DuBois, Greater Allegheny, Mont Alto, Penn College, Schuylkill, Wilkes-Barre and Worthington Scranton.
Also competing will be members of the Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Conference, as they will hold a meet concurrently with the PSUAC Championships. While all runners will start at the same time, the meets will be timed and scored separately.
Fayette's women's squad is led by sophomores Carin Benz and Jennifer Naymick, and look to contend for their first ever team title. Penn State Scranton has won every women's meet this season, although Fayette has closed the gap each week, including a 15 point loss at Penn State Lehigh Valley.
The men's team is led by freshmen Kevin Diamond and DonMonique Lee, top 25 finishers in most PSUAC meets this season. The men look to make up ground on several teams, as their best finish is third at Penn State Mont Alto.
The team and individual champions automatically qualify for the USCAA National Cross Country Championships on Friday, Nov. 11 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY, hosted by Paul Smith's College.
