Fayette Makes History: Capture First PSUAC Championship
History belongs to Penn State Fayette Softball.
They claimed their first-ever Penn State University Athletic Conference Softball Championship, completing a dominant postseason run capped by a thrilling 14-8 victory over No. 2 seed Penn State Mont Alto in the title game.
Fayette's road to the championship was nothing short of impressive. They opened with a 5-1 win over No. 3 seed Penn State Schuylkill Softball, then followed with another 5-1 victory over Mont Alto to advance through the bracket. In the semifinal round, Fayette powered past top-seeded Penn State New Kensington, 12-4, to secure a spot in the championship game.
With the title on the line, Fayette delivered its most complete performance of the season in a high-scoring 14-8 win over Mont Alto at Heindl Field in DuBois.
After falling behind 1-0 early, the girls erupted for five runs in the second inning, highlighted by a grand slam from Taylor Doppelheuer that swung the momentum for good. Fayette continued to apply pressure throughout the game, piling up 18 hits and scoring in five different innings.
Doppelheuer led the charge with five RBIs, while Kylie Stevenson added a three-hit performance that included a home run and two RBIs. Kendra Firestone was a key contributor as well, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Julie Cooper added two hits and an RBI in the offensive outburst.
In the circle, Makenzee Kenney went the distance, earning the complete-game victory and keeping Fayette in control despite Mont Alto's late push.
From start to finish, Fayette showcased a potent combination of timely hitting, depth throughout the lineup, and resilience in key moments. They defeated the conference's top three seeds on their way to the title, cementing a historic achievement for the program.
The result: a championship trophy, a statement run—and history made!!
