Late Rally Not Enough as Fayette Drops Game to Beaver
Penn State Fayette wrapped up its Suicide Awareness Day doubleheader against Penn State Beaver on April 27, falling 9-4 in the second game despite a late push from the Roaring Lions.
Beaver struck early once again, scoring twice in the opening inning and adding another in the second to take a 3-0 lead. A triple from Kierstyn Mays in the second inning highlighted the early offensive surge for the visitors.
Fayette responded in the fourth inning when Julie Cooper delivered an RBI single to bring home Kaylee Doppelheuer and cut the deficit to 3-1. However, Beaver answered with a three-run fifth inning and capitalized on defensive miscues in the sixth, extending their lead to 9-1.
The Roaring Lions continued to battle and showed resilience late in the game. In the sixth inning, Cooper came through again with a clutch two-RBI triple to right center, scoring Kendra Firestone and Kaylee Doppelheuer. Fayette added one more run in the seventh as Taylor Doppelheuer crossed the plate on a groundout by Haylee Speicher, but the comeback effort fell short.
Makenzee Kenney went the distance in the circle for Fayette, working all seven innings against a strong Beaver lineup.
