Fayette Honors Suicide Awareness in Home Matchup
Fayette Hosts Suicide Awareness Game Against Beaver
Penn State Fayette softball took the field on April 27 for a meaningful Suicide Awareness Game, recognizing the importance of mental health awareness and support within the community, as they faced Penn State Beaver.
Beaver came out strong offensively, scoring early and building momentum through the first two innings to take control of the game. A big sixth inning from the visitors extended the lead and secured a 15–2 result.
Despite the final score, Fayette showed resilience and continued to compete throughout. The Lions broke through in the fifth inning, with Taylor Doppelheuer driving in a run on a single before Haylee Speicher followed with an RBI triple to bring home Fayette's second run.
Speicher led the offense with two hits and an RBI, while Doppelheuer also recorded two hits and drove in a run. Kylie Stevenson added a hit, and Hayleigh Vance crossed the plate for one of Fayette's runs.
In the circle, Morgan Matthews got the start, with Makenzee Kenney providing relief. The Lions continued to battle defensively and looked to limit damage against a strong Beaver lineup.
More importantly, the day served as an opportunity for Fayette Athletics to raise awareness around mental health and suicide prevention, reinforcing the program's commitment to supporting student-athletes and the wider community beyond competition.
Fayette will look to regroup and carry forward the energy and purpose from the day into its upcoming contests.
