Fayette Explodes for 20 Runs in Dominant Game One Victory
The Penn State Fayette softball team delivered an offensive masterclass on April 12, overpowering Penn State Hazleton 20–0 in game one of a doubleheader.
Fayette wasted no time asserting control, erupting for 10 runs in the opening inning to set the tone early. The Lions capitalized on timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and Hazleton miscues to build a commanding lead they would never relinquish.
The offense remained relentless throughout the game, adding another run in the third inning before breaking things wide open again with a nine-run fourth inning. In total, Fayette racked up 20 hits and 17 RBIs in a complete team performance at the plate.
Leading the charge was Sidney Bergman, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBIs. Makenzee Kenney delivered a standout performance as well, going 4-for-5 with two triples and a game-high six RBIs. Kylie Stevenson added four hits and three RBIs, while Julie Cooper contributed two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs.
Hayleigh Vance also made a significant impact, finishing with two hits and two RBIs, while multiple players contributed multi-hit performances in a balanced offensive display.
In the circle, Bergman set the tone early, tossing three hitless innings while striking out four. Morgan Matthews followed with two solid innings of relief, allowing just one hit to complete the shutout effort.
Fayette's aggressive approach extended to the basepaths, with multiple stolen bases adding pressure throughout the game.
