Fayette Offense Produces 13 Hits in Hard-Fought Loss at Kent State Tuscarawas
Penn State Fayette put together an impressive offensive performance but fell just short in a 9-6 loss to Kent State Tuscarawas on March 29.
Fayette struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on a Kent State Tuscarawas error to take an early 1-0 lead. The home side answered quickly with two runs in the bottom half and added another in the third to go ahead 3-1.
Fayette responded in the fourth inning with a strong rally. Kendra Firestone showcased heads-up baserunning by stealing home, and Makenzee Kenney followed with an RBI triple to tie the game at 3-3.
The game turned in the bottom of the fourth inning as Kent State Tuscarawas plated five runs, using a series of extra-base hits and taking advantage of defensive miscues to regain control at 8-3.
Fayette continued to battle at the plate, adding a run in the fifth on a double from Hayleigh Vance that brought home Kylie Stevenson. Trailing 9-4 entering the seventh, Fayette made one final push. Haylee Speicher delivered an RBI single and Julie Cooper followed with another run-scoring hit to cut the deficit to 9-6.
Offensively, Fayette recorded 13 hits on the day. Speicher led the way with a 3-for-5 performance and an RBI, while Stevenson added two hits and scored three runs. Kenney, Sidney Bergman, and Firestone each collected two hits, with Firestone also scoring twice.
In the circle, Morgan Matthews took the loss, while Kenney and Bergman provided relief efforts to close out the game.
Despite the result, Fayette showed resilience and offensive firepower throughout, continuing to apply pressure until the final inning.
