SB finished conference schedule with sweep

Mont Alto, PA - The Penn State Fayette softball team secured its second sweep in as many days over Penn State Mont Alto.

Both wins were by one run and Fayette (19-12, 16-4 PSUAC) has now won 12 straight games.

Aubree Yates (Eighty-Four, PA/Bentworth HS) had two hits and scored twice to lead Fayette offensively.

With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Chanel Porter (Cumberland, MD/Allegany HS) hit a sacrifice fly to score Aubree Yates (Eighty-Four, PA/Bentworth HS) with the winning run.

Tiffany Markovitch (Brownsville, PA/Brownsville HS) earned her 11th win of the season in the pitcher's circle.

It took eight innings in the second game, but Fayette pulled out a 4-3 win over Mont Alto (8-24, 5-15 PSUAC).

After Mont Alto put two unearned runs on the board in the first, Fayette answered as Ally Hawkins (Morgantown, WV/Morgantown HS) singled in a run and Casey Hite (Bentleyville, PA/Bentworth HS) followed with an RBI double.

Mont Alto took a 3-2 lead in the fifth, but Fayette answered once again as Lauren Mastowski (Dawson, PA/Frazier HS) had an RBI single.

Mont Alto threatened in the top of the eight as it had a runner on third with one out, but Markovich struck out the last two batters of the inning.

In the bottom of the frame, Madison Knight (Clarksburg, WV/Robert C. Byrd HS) doubled in Danielle Jones (Uniontown, PA/Laurel Highlands) to end the game and keep Fayette's winning streak intact.

Markovich earned the win, her 12th, in relief while Mastowski had three hits.

Fayette is scheduled for a double header Wednesday at Christendom before opening play in the PSUAC tournament.

Currently, Penn State Beaver (26-10, 14-2 PSUAC) leads the West division and Penn State DuBois (15-8, 13-3 PSUAC) is a game up on Fayette for second.

The second place team will host the third place team Friday in a de facto play-in game for a berth in the double-elimination tournament.
