Golf looks to rebuild for 2023 season
Penn State Fayette's golf season concluded at the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) championships with an eighth-place finish as part of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national championships October 10 and 11.
"We competed in the PSUAC national championship at the Blue Course in State College to close the season," said head coach Freddie Harrison. "The players started the season strong and finished with a strong performance."
Looking best for Fayette was Dylan Pawlak (Acme, PA/Mt. Pleasant HS), who took fifth overall after shooting a 161.
"Dylan has constantly been getting better all year," Harrison said. "He will continue to put the work in during the off season to get ready for next year. Dylan placed 5th individually this year and had a couple top-five (finishes) in other tournaments. He wants to win the whole thing and I think he has the potential to do just that."
James Zakrzwski (Belle Vernon, PA/Greensburg Central Catholic HS) also finished in the top 10 as he came in tied for ninth place with a 168.
"James Zakrzwski will be missed next year, as he is off to main campus," said Harrison. "James was a top 10 finisher two years in a row."
Nate Moody (Uniontown, PA/Uniontown HS) tied for 21st with a 175 while Chase Malanosky (Fredericktown, PA/Beth-Center) was 47th with a score of 236.
"Nate Moody played solid and has improved his game all year as well," Harrison said. "Nate will be back next year and he will be shooting lower scores. Chase has now officially finished his freshman year of golf. He also has the potential to be a solid player, he just has to trust himself. In golf, if you're not committed to what you're trying to accomplish, it will show immediately. It is hard for some players to transition from high school golf to college golf."
Harrison finished by speaking about the season.
"Overall, I am very pleased with our progress as a whole," he said. "We started adding some hardware to the trophy cases on campus this year and the goal next year is to fill it up."
