Fayette ends season with loss to Berkeley-NY

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. – The curtain came down on the 2013-14 season on Thursday when the Roaring Lions fell to Berkeley, N.Y. 87-66 in the consolation round of the Men’s Division II USCAA National Basketball Championships.

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. – The curtain came down on the 2013-14 season on Thursday when the Roaring Lions fell to Berkeley, N.Y. 87-66 in the consolation round of the Men's Division II USCAA National Basketball Championships.

The Roaring Lions seemed to feel the effects of the previous evening's heartbreaking overtime loss to Berkeley, N.J. The Knights went on a 39-4 lasted through the four-minute mark of the half.

A 9-4 run in the middle of the second half was punctuated three-pointer from Matt McKenna (Pittsburgh, Pa.) with four to play that pulled the Roaring Lions to within 12 at 70-57 with five minutes to play.

Richard Rampersand's layup keyed a 17-10 run for Berkeley to end the game and end the Roaring Lions season.

McKenna led all scorers with 26 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Luke Williams (Maui, Hawaii) added 14 points and a steal, while Dominick Jackson (Minneapolis, Minn.) had 11 and an pair of assists and Jake Bronder (Jefferson Hills, Pa.) scored 11 and grabbed four rebounds.

Fayette closes the season with a 13-16 record with a key win over #5 Mont Alto and a PSUAC semifinal appearance in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year after the Roaring Lions lost their top eight players to graduation.
