Smiley Leads the Way as Fayette Competes at Home

Big Middle Innings Push Du Bois Past Penn State Fayette

Penn State Fayette dropped a home contest on Monday, falling 15-3 to Penn State Du Bois in a five-inning game.

The contest remained scoreless through the first two innings before Du Bois broke through with a five-run third inning. The visitors capitalized on a mix of timely hitting, a balk, and a Fayette error to take early control.

Fayette answered in the bottom of the third, getting on the board when Manny Stitch was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing home Hunter Smiley to cut the deficit to 5-1.

Du Bois responded with a decisive fourth inning, plating nine runs to extend the lead. Despite allowing just six hits in the frame, Fayette was hurt by defensive miscues, as several runs came across unearned. The inning proved to be the difference as Du Bois built a commanding 14-1 advantage.

The visitors added one more run in the fifth on a solo home run from Aaron Miller.

Fayette showed resilience late, scoring twice in the bottom of the fifth. Remington Lessman drove in a run with a single, and AJ Segarra added an RBI on a sacrifice fly to bring the final score to 15-3.

At the plate, Fayette recorded eight hits, led by Hunter Smiley, who went a perfect 2-for-2 and scored twice. Connor Perry added two hits, while Lessman, Alex Weber, Frank Macioce, and James Knapton each contributed a hit.

On the mound, Brandon Bieler took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) over three innings. Todd Kowalcyk and Josh Vacha combined in relief as Fayette worked through the remainder of the game.
