Penn State Fayette Drops Season Opener to Christendom College at Mylan Park
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Opening Day proved to be a high-scoring affair for Penn State Fayette, as the Lions fell 21–10 to Christendom College on February 28, 2026 at Mylan Park.
Fayette came out swinging in its first game of the season, plating five runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 5–4 lead. However, Christendom responded with a decisive nine-run second inning and never relinquished control, adding four runs in the third, one in the fourth, and three more in the fifth to secure the victory.
Penn State Fayette tallied 11 hits on the day, highlighted by strong performances in the middle of the lineup. AJ Segarra led the offense, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBI. Remington Lessman added two doubles and drove in three runs, while Jonathan Vasbinder contributed a hit and two RBI. Alex Weber tripled and scored three runs, and Hunter Smiley added a triple of his own.
On the mound, Lessman took the loss after starting the contest. Todd Kowalcyk and Josh Hammer provided relief as Fayette worked through the Christendom lineup, which totaled 18 hits. Christendom was paced offensively by Gus Coleman and Peter Sullivan, who combined for eight RBI, while Will Reese added four RBI in the win.
Despite the final score, the Lions showed early offensive potential and resilience at the plate in their 2026 debut. Penn State Fayette will look to build on that production as they continue their season schedule.
